Alba was hoping for maybe a little more drama after that big crazy grin but, well, Zaffo’s unflappable.
Every time I look at the diagram of Zaffo’s brain it makes me giggle.
Also she is a self-insert and yes we say that about me too.
The lower censor bar was a lot smaller and mostly horizontal in the rough.
The Special Weather Event is spilling out of the Foodclown Foodfunhut and that really doesn’t look very good but Jobclown said the job was done so I guess… it’s… okay?
major thanks to the wizards at Astute Graphics for saving me from actually having to draw a bg in the last panel here, I just copied the one from the next page (which itself was modified from the one at the beginning of the chapter) and hit it with their lovely halftone plugin 🙂
Last batch of pages for this chapter, yay! HUGS FOR EVERYEON!
I was gonna spend a week doing some commissions but then I submitted this thing for an Ignatz and maybe I better, like, finish out this first arc before the judges look at it? That’d be nice.
There’s three more pages left before that happens!
We’re getting close to the end of this chapter, and to the end of the first job! Once that’s done it’s probably gonna be time to do some more work on the website’s presentation of this thing, and maybe even try promoting it…
It is totally normal for holographic clowns to pop out of your cleavage and evaluate your friends’ performance. Zaffo is probably enjoying this more than she really should.
Back to reality! Such as it is.
49¢. Muted post-horn. Totally not a reference to anything. At all.
please sit in the second banana chair, second banana
Here comes three pages I’ve been sitting on for a little while. Shit’s getting weird.
Format change. Probably for good, there’s things I’m just not enjoying about the endless scroll of largely same-sized panels. It might be better for a world where most people read everything on phones but I just fundamentally like composing a full page. It took me a while to get the designs working for the foreground and background, but once I did it was a real pleasure to lay out a series of differently-sized panels and think about how the word balloons helped to guide the reader’s eye through the page.

It didn’t take too much fooling around to get character designs I was happy with for this sequence.

But the background took a while. Kin had certain stylistic vibes that I just was not really finding the vibe for.

I struggled with a few painterly looks based on the reference images they provided before finally going with my desire for a really minimalist look, and finding something we both liked.

Also I need to edit the styles for individual pages, right now the actual comic is kind of missing from the single-page view of this! Go look at the full chapter view to see it in context.
Surely this is a very safe and sensible thing Alba is about to do. Lunarians are nothing but sensible and pragmatic.
Sorry for the gap there for a while. I’ve been busy and there’s been some technical issues with the files for this project that’s been making it hard t really get in the groove on it. I’ve got these somewhat handled now.
Alba has absolutely no idea what Zaffo just did to the Jobclown.
And here we go with the last part of Alba’s first job on Earth! Time for her to show why the Clowns thought she’d be good at this sort of thing.
