Done. I’m printing two copies of this as I type. They’ll go in little plastic report covers, one with the Federacracy material first, one with the Union material first.
Sunday morning, I’ll give them to the folks Nickelodeon is sending to SPX. Maybe with a copy of Rita 1/2 to prove that I can tell compelling stories. Maybe just with a couple copies of the Rita fliers full of glowing quotes. And at some point soon I’ll probably send a digital copy of this to my contact at Cartoon Network, as well.

This sounds amazing! I’d watch the hell out of this. I wonder if you want to change the “Jaeger” name, though, considering that’s what the mechs in Pacific Rim were called…
Thanks! And yeah, that’s definitely changing. It was a placeholder name that I used before I’d drawn the things and I haven’t come up with something better/funnier.
Yeah, naming is hard. (One of my favorite programming quotes – “There are only two hard problems in computer science: naming, cache eviction, and off-by-one errors.”)
I think you mentioned not wanting to be obvious about the fact that it’d be combining with the Pants later, but maybe this is subtle enough – one name that popped into my mind is “Armature” – it sounds technical, can abbreviate to “Arm” at a comedically appropriate point, and under one of its definitions (an underlying framework for a sculpture), it could be a basic platform onto which Valerie could bolt a ton of different customizations (based on the needs of the specific mission and/or the personal styles of the pilots).
Also, I just realized that given the speed at which these kind of things usually work, if your pitch gets picked up, it’ll probably start airing right about when my son reaches the lower end of the target audience age range. Now I’m even more excited about this. :D
Ooooh, that one’s good. Probably with some other word added to it so it has a similar rhythm to ‘Tactical Pants’. ‘Combat Armature’ feels like a good first stab, though there’s probably a more evocative one to be found. Thank you!
edit: oh god yes. Because the combined ship is now named the ‘Tactical Combat Armpants’ which makes my inner five-year-old giggle helplessly.
Tactical Combat Armpants. YES.
I would add suggested stories about conflicts within the two crews — one story each, just aboard the Whalesong, or just aboard the Spinward. I hope that Nickelodeon chooses your work!
Ooh, yeah, good point. Added that to the list. Thanks!
Tactical Combat Tuxedo could be amusing too, but that’s more indirect.
