a lesson

Upon reflection, I think what I learnt from the dismal performances of Jet City Comic-Con the weekend before last, and Bent-Con this past weekend, can be summed up by this song.

Except preferably without the “dying quietly in my sleep after passing some wisdom on” part. That part didn’t embed itself into my brain when I heard it an infinite number of times on the radio in the seventies, just the chorus.

And maybe I’ve learnt a few things I need to go research about cons before I decide to try selling at them, too. There’s a minimum attendance that gives me a decent chance to break even, and I need to feel like there will be people there who’ll welcome female-focused work by someone raised on American cartooning. (Which is why I don’t exhibit at anime conventions – though if anyone feels like splitting an alley table at Sakura I’d be willing to give it a shot.)

Anyway. Am I done hashing over Why I Sold Fuck All At Bent-Con and What I Can learn From That? I think I am.

  1. So, for what it’s worth, I managed to get a Sakura-Con table for DoubleJump, and I believe that anyone who contributes to the next group ‘zine will be allowed to have some of their stuff sold at said table. We’re still hashing out the details though.
