from the vaults: batman

Some conversation on Twitter reminded me of this thing I started on back in 2011 and seem to have never posted. It’s the beginning of a Batman/Harley Quinn teamup story.

Basically, the idea is “find a cheap excuse to put Bats and Harley in close proximity without them trying to kill each other and watch them rub each other raw”. Harley would try to poke at Batman’s motivations out of curiosity (she IS a former psychiatrist, after all, albiet a terrible one who slept her way through school); Batman would be a barely contained bottle of rage, it would be good times for all. Harley would probably betray Batman after finding out the “bomb pill” was a total fake-out; the Joker’s scheme would be foiled, and the last page would be a “one year later” full-page splash of another cockamamie Joker scheme with Bats and Harley teaming up to stop it, with some dialogue like “We have got to stop meeting like this.”

I never finished this for two reasons: one, I couldn’t come up with a Joker scheme that really had the malign illogic that’s the hallmark of his schemes, and two, the likelyhood of it ever being published is small. I got some funny Batman and Harley drawings out of my system and that’s all it really needed to do.
