So earlier today I saw a video of a very spirited sign language performance of Nikki Minaj’s “Anaconda”. It amused me to take things literally, and my mostly-dormant Extreme Cartoon Porn identity ended up drawing a snake-lady with a big ass, and posting it to Furaffinity.
I’d used a photograph of a yellow anaconda as reference, and wanted to play around with the textures a bit more. So I started drawing this, and playing with some ways to quickly draw out the scale patterns I’d observed. Once I had that, I kinda went overboard with drawing the rest of her, and someone for her to talk to, and a background, and writing a fragment of narrative.
The back of my brain likes her and wants to figure out some more details on her – what’s her name? what’s she like? what does she do? is she really as huge as this background makes her look? but I really have no ideas where to go with that. I’m also kinda not willing to really give myself over to the exploration of this right now; I feel kinda guilty for not working on Rita today. Still, it’s always good to kick a few new ideas around, and see what tumbles out; maybe she’ll find her way into some future project.
(I’m thinking ‘no’ on the ‘huge’ question though. Also my default for ‘what does she do’ is ‘some kind of sorceress’ but I already have a sorceress serpent lady character, I’m not sure I need another one. She might be some sort of alternate version of that untruthful vampire lady I’ve been pondering? Which would be a bit of a rip-off of Tim Powers’ “The Stress of Her Regard” and its spooky statue/lamia vampires. Or she might be another character who pops up in that particular urban fantasy world? Dunno. She could at least have some sort of cameo in “Drowning City” perhaps though I’m not sure there’s room, there’s really not much furry stuff in there. Yeah, she seems more like something for Oscar and Dana’s world, or a story the Lying Vampire tells.)
