I decided to take a couple extra days of vacation after APE. This will more than eat any profit I may have made from the con, but after three cons in as many weekends, I need a vacation.
So here I am in a motel. All my tweets say I’m in the “Cow Hollow” neighborhood – between Filmore and Van Ness, on Lombard. I have absolutely no plans for things to do, and while “finding a nice place in Golden Gate Park to sit around and quietly draw” feels like a pretty good agenda, I’d like to have a few other ideas.
What would you do if you were in SF with a couple days to kill, and no car?
I’m a sucker for Japantown, but it’s a tiny neighborhood and won’t last you more than a couple of hours. Public transit is really solid there – are there folks either in SF or south bay that you could drop in on for a while? Depending on how hike-y you’re feeling, a walk across the Bay Bridge itself to the viewing area on the North side of the bridge might be a decent way to kill a few hours and get some great views of the city and the Bay proper…
San Francisco has somewhat better museums than Seattle. Definitely check out the MOMA.
San Francisco has vastly better Mexican food than Seattle. Go to a taco truck.
The Sutro Baths are a nice hike and exploration of urban decay, although they’re kind of annoying to get to without a car (but not impossible). Mt. Sutro in general is nice too.
