Old Ensign K experiment

This is so old it has my birth name on it. I drew it while I was living on the floor of Ken’s apartment in West LA.

I’d toyed with pitching “Ensign K” as a TV series that would run as commercial bumpers. I was pretty happy to see “Clone Wars” use that format a few years later – I might have even been the one who gave Genndy Tartakovsky that idea, as some Ensign K stuff was in my portfolio when I showed it to him.

Also, I think it is pretty obvious that I’d only barely discovered Mike Mignola at this point in my life, and hadn’t learnt how to do strong chiaroscuro without blatantly imitating him.
